Golden History Museums
If you are looking to set some time aside where you can turn off the TV,unplug the computer, and switch off the cell phone, then it is time to visit the Golden History Museums! Golden is not only home to unique shops, amazing restaurants, and innovative businesses, but is also home to many historical sites. The Golden History Museums are consist of three separate museums. The Astor House Museum,Clear Creek History Park, and the Golden History center offer a window into the past when Golden was the capitol of the Colorado Territory and every citizen had gold fever. The Astor House was the first stone building in Colorado and served as a hotel until 1971 when it was saved from demolition and turned into a museum. Come see all of the wonderful furnishings and fixtures that were the height of technology in the 1900’s. Clear Creek History Park “…is home to many of the original buildings from the old Pearce Ranch in Golden Gate Canyon”. Moved log by log to it’s current home next to downtown, this ranch includes multiple family cabins,a school house,a community heirloom garden,a root cellar,an outhouse,a blacksmith,a chicken coop,a bee yard, and more! Children of all ages can take the walking tour daily or participate in the many classes and events held year round. The Golden History center website states that it is old and new at the same time. They host a variety of exhibits and are always of the lookout for more Golden-related stories and artifacts. This is a great way to spend the afternoon with the family.
